Question # 1
Should I focus on Retail or should I consider supplying into Foodservice?
Answered by Christopher Faulkner @ Brakes
You can’t afford not to consider Foodservice. Foodservice which I define as the provision of food to consumers who then eat the food – any food that is prepared and presented for sale to be eaten by the consumer in or near the place of purchase or service, whether that be in Restaurants, Pubs, Hotels, Hospitals, Prisons, Schools, Universities, Cafes, Sandwich Bars, Fast Food outlets, Leisure Center’s, Care Homes and many other establishments that serve food to its customers.
The Foodservice Market is currently valued at circa £85bn across some 340,000 outlets. It has continued to grow every year for the past 10 years and is forecast to grow at 3% per annum in the coming years. It is also worth considering that in recent years Foodservice has seen a growth by expanding the traditional meal times that food is served, bearing in mind Breakfast is the fastest growing area alongside Food on the Go / Grab and Go.
